Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
General contractor
We purchased a new home in August 2007. A stipulation when buying the home was that there is a 1-year guarantee to correct anything that goes wrong. We have a 220 clothes dryer outlet that has no power. We have called our contractor, he promised to have the subcontracted electrician come out, this never happened on the promised date and no phone calls to our contractor since have been returned. Are we within our legal limits to get an independent electrician here to correct the problem and send the bill to our contractor since he is breeching his contract to fix it by being nonresponsive to our calls and taking no action? If not, what is our next legal step to take with this problem (other than sending him all our dirty laundry?) We have lost our sense of humor with the guy as this is the second instance of being ''shined on'' since we moved in on things he is responsible for. Thanks for any insight you can offer.
