Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Gift Certificate Expiration Dates

I heard from several sources that California has passed a law outlawing expiration dates for gift certificates. Is this correct? I have several that do have expiration dates, and need to know soon if they will in fact expire.

If there is such a law or statute, would you kindly advise where I can get it in print, so that if I have a problem with the merchant I can whip it out and show them the law in black and white?

Thanks.

Re: Gift Certificate Expiration Dates

There is indeed a relevant statute that limits expiration dates. There have been several class actions filed in the state for violations of this law. You might consider contacting my firm or another class action specialist to discuss, as you will then be helping all the other victims too. I don't have the cite handy, but could look it up for you.
