Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
gift certificates
Once a gift certificate has been purchased, can it actually expire? I have some gift certificates that I haven't used from last Christmas and I noticed one of them says ''expires 1 year from purchase date.'' Is this legal.....I mean someone bought it for me....once it--name removed--paid for, can it expire legally? Thank you!

Re: gift certificates
Although there are some exceptions to the rule, California law prohibits the sale of gift certicates that contain expiration dates. See Civil Code Section 1749.5 and the sections that follow.
