Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
My girlfriend got called at work by a person claiming they were the OC Sheriff coming to serve her at work. They gave her the phone number of the company who was serving her and when she called they told her she was going to be sued unless they collected an old debt that had accumulated to $2000. When she expressed surprise they threatened to repo her car and affect her co-signers credit on her car loan. We looked up her credit report and the debt they claimed was over 6 years old without any activity and the statute of limitations is 4 years in CA. When she called them back to get a name and address to send a dispute letter they gave her a fake name and address which we verified. We then called the OC Sherifff's department to verfiy the process server and they had no record of paperwork to be served to her. When we tried to call the lady back who went by Alexis Cruz aka Alexis Murphy aka Alexis Garcia she wouldn't answer and she had different name on her voicemail. I tracked the phone number to a company called Asset Capital Management Group or Asset & Capital Management Group out of Santa Ana / Anaheim / Tustin. I also found two blog posts one is http://www.lawguru.com/legal-questions/california-credit-debt-collections/asset-capital-management-group-blue-377918914/ and the other is http://www.ripoffreport.com/collection-agencies/asset-capital-manage/asset-capital-management-gro-bwb2c.htm which show they are in the business of this. Is there anything my girlfriend can do to get to these people?

I would call the police and report this. I'm pretty sure there is a crime or two involved here. You might also contact the DA's office. They may already have a file open on it.
