Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Can a hair salon sue me if an employee instructed me to make a stop payment as m

I went into a salon to get a hair cut and highlights. After the hairdresser was through I didn't like it. My hair cut was crooked and the highlights were two inch bars and the color was uneven. The hairdresser kept convincing me that it would take some getting use to. My hair was still wet, so I could not see the complete outcome of the services. When I got home I looked at my hair in my bathroom (which happens to be a well lit room.) I decided at that moment that my hair was awful! The next morning I called the salon and asked for a refund. An associate agreed to a refund. I told her I would come by later to pick up the check. But she instructed me to place a stop payment on it. So, I did. A few minutes later at work I receive a call from the owner advising me that she would not give me a refund. Aren't owners liable for their employees? Because I work at a brokerage firm all calls are recorded. I have that phone call from the owner recorded. Now they are suing me through small claims court. BTW, I got my hair fixed the next day and the hairdresser wrote me an affidavit and took pictures of the damaged hair. Do I have a chance at winning this case?
