Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Illeagally Repossed Car

My car was at a car dealership for mechanical and body work. The mechanical work should have been covered by an extended warranty. After my car was at the dealership for 2 1/2 mos. me paying $5,000. the car didn't run. The body work was also not done. I stopped pmt. on ck. Returned to auto dlrshp. Supposedly fixed car. Wouldn't let me see or have w/o another $5,000. Wanted to mediate - was out $3,000. in car rental. They reported my vehicle ''abandoned''. Even tho pmts were current -w/o any notification, my vehicle was repossed & sold by my finance Co. Is this legal? What rights do I have?
