Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Invalid Contract
My small family business is being sued by a customer for breech of contract. Due to the fact that our business was sold by our landlord without our consent or receiving of any compensation, yes he just ''booted'' us out (another law suit, I will undoubtedly ask question regarding at a later date) We have found ourselves rather ''out-of-funds'' and can no longer afford the thousands of dollars in legal fees that we have been paying so now we are representing ourselves (yes, I know that this is suicide...we have no option).
ON to my question: The Plaintiff's attorney and our ex-attorney have scheduled an arbitration date of Sept 23, 2002 and I need to request a continuance to properly prepare (so that I can study up to become a fly-by-night attorney - ha ha). Do I need to do this with the courthouse, the arbitrator, or the plantiff's attorney? and do I do this prior to the scheduled date or is this addressed and requested at the arbitration?

-You should first contact the arbitrator and plaintiff's attorney to work out a reasonable new due date. If that fails, you may have to apply to the court for relief.
