Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

laptop computer

I purchased a vpr Matrix laptop from Best Buy 2/2003 along with a 3 year extended warranty. The computer needs to be repaired again but they have refused because the serial number has worn off the label. vpr Matrix was manufactured especially for Best Buy and all phone numbers for the computer manufacturer are directed through BB corporate.

I have the original serial number and the number of my extended warranty but BB says they cannot send me a duplicate label; they have made no provisions for this type of contingency.

Their local tech department continues to tell me to contact the mfgr for a new label as they cannot work on a computer without a serial number.

The computer has gone into the shop 3 times but for different reasons so I don't think CA's Lemon Law applies.

How can I get BB to honor our contract and fix my computer?

Thank you.

Re: laptop computer

If Best Buy is unwilling to repair the computer, you will probably have to have it repaired by someone else, then sue Best Buy to get your money back. I suspect that the repairs will be less than $5,000.00, so you will be able to proceed in small claims court.
