Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Legal ownership of a gift
If 2 clients pick out an 2 separate engagement rings to give to their girlfriends, but a third party agrees to pay for the bands as a gift with no expectation of being payed back. Can the third party take the rings back at any time if he feels inclined to do so? The reciept is in the name of the client but the credit card reciept is in the name of the third party. Both of the rings have now been given to the girlfriends as well.

Re: Legal ownership of a gift
A gift is a gift. Unless there were any specific conditions placed on the gift, the purchaser has no legal right to demand the return of the rings.
