Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Lent equipment to friends;returned damage

1 year ago I lent my former band mates my mixing board when I left the band. I left on good terms. A few weeks ago I contacted them to let let know that wanted my mixing board back so I can sell it at our community garage sale at my condo. I gave them 2 weeks to purchase a new board. They returned my mixing board and stated that it is not working properly. I told them they need to either pay for the repairs or buy the mixing board from me. They told me that ''it's just normal wear and tear'' and that they do not have to pay for anything. I told them I need compinsation. What can I do?

As a former soundman: Your musician friends probably forgot to turn up the volume or something and your board isn't really fubar'ed. Have it checked out and get an estimate before you take them to small claims court.
