Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
How long must a manufacture (plumbing faucet) provide replacement parts? These parts are shown in the installation manual as replacement parts. They still sell the complete unit. I've owned the faucet for 6 years. They're telling me I have to buy the complete unit @ $250 ea. I need 3. They're plastic trim pieces.
1 Answer from Attorneys
There is no law that requires a manufacturer to provide replacement parts at all, except the law of the market and the laws of supply and demand. If the market will buy their products without replacement parts available, they are free to do business that way. Likewise, if they cannot supply replacement parts at the level demanded by the market at the price the market is willing to pay without taking a loss, they have no obligation to sell parts at a loss to make you happy.
