Re: can a mortgage brobtaining a consumer credit report without written authoriz

If you have engaged the broker to procure a loan, then the broker is among the class of persons who may request a consumer report about you from a credit reporting agency. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (amended in 1997) includes restrictions on who may obtain a consumer credit report. The applicable law is located at 15 U.S.C. section 1681a. Under this law, the classes of persons who may request a credit report include prospective lenders. For further information on the subject you may check the web pages maintained by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which has some downloadable booklets on the subject. If you send me an email message at my mail address, I can forward the FTC's consumer brochure to you.
