Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Moving company hostage scam
I hired a national moving company to move household goods from Florida to California. I had a maximum price guarantee including one months free storage if required. The moving company arrived in California with part of my goods two days earlier than I had verbally agreed to. It then advised me that it would cost $2600+ additional to get my goods and I had to fax a credit card authorization. I faxed the authorization with a notation on it stating that this was only done to get my goods. The remaining items came two weeks later. Can I sue in California?

Yes. Once they entered California, they made themselves subject to the authority of the California courts.
