Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Newspaper subscription
For a period of time I had subscribed to a local newspaper. Last October, when that current subscription expired, I did not send money to renew that subscription. Last week I received a ''collection'' notice about this issue. I called the paper and was told that since they did not receive a phone call or a letter from me cancelling the subscription it was their policy to continue to deliver the paper and that this is stated on their bills. They want me to pay for paper delivery from Oct up til now for a subscription I did not renew. I did not request that subscription and did not send money for the renewal in October. Plus they are saying that the delivery person claims they delivered each and every paper. Which I cannot confirm. On several occasions during my paid subscription I did not receive the Sunday paper. So I have my doubts that the paper was delivered since October without missing an issue. I need to know if I am legally responsible for a subscription I did not renew. Thank you very much for your time.

Re: Newspaper subscription
You accepted the subscription by your conduct in not rejecting it. I would therefore pay the bill, less whatever amount is appropriate for missed issues.
