Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Private party used car sale
I recently bought a classic sports car from a private party. The car needs some work paint, seat covers, tires. The seller had just had it serviced before I bought it. I asked him if mechanic found any problems with the car, he said no. The other day he called me and said he forgot to tell me the mechanic found a broken head bolt. I called the mechanic and he said the cost would be $2,500-$4,000 to repair. On the day I purchased the car the seller told me could not find the receipt from the mechanic, but he would send me a copy. Is there anything I can do?

Re: Private party used car sale
Wow! That is one expensive bolt. You could repair the head yourself and spend a few dollars on the bolt you can get from the dealer or a bolt store. Or you could sue the seller in small claims court for the cost of repairs.
