Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I am having problems with Lexus (toyota), who isn't? I took my lexus to the dealer because my engine was making noise. I was told it was on the recall list for valve springs. But take it home because they don't have the replacement parts. They tell me to go ahead and drive the car putting myself, friends and family at risk because the engine could just stop while driving. My car has been sitting in the garage for 3 weeks! I spoke to someone today and they still don't know when the parts will be available. Is there a time limit for them to fix my car?

There are some strict consumer laws about such matters. I do not have the specific knowledge you are looking for, but I am sure it is available online at the California Consumer Affairs department. Check "lemon laws" regarding exactly what your rights are in this respect.I would expect that you would not be at risk if you continued driving the car. Toyota is very cautious about such matters, so they would have told you NOT to drive if there was a safety hazard. You should have their instructions to continue driving the car IN WRITING in case some additional damage occurs that is a direct result of you driving the car; ie, additional engine damage.
