Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Product lost or stolen during shipping

When someone purchases a big ticket item by mail or on-line, is the shipping agent making the delivery required to check identification to insure it is delivered to the addressee? Who is responsable for replacement if the driver for the shipping agent accepts the signature of whom ever answers the door and the delivery is stolen? The person who placed the order requested that the package not be left by the door and was assured that it would not be , but it's ok for the shipping agent to hand it over to someone without any proof their the addressee?

Re: Product lost or stolen during shipping

Hard to answer. If the sender sent instuructions to the shipper and they were not followed, then the shipper is liable.
