Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Protected by CA Labor Code 1701? WSN Modeling Scam

Scammed by Wilhelmina Scouting Network.

''If you were scammed by an advance-fee talent service in CA (paid reg. fees for photos, internet comp cards, etc.), you could get your money back. A violation of CA Labor Code 1701 is a criminal offense. That means the state can sue them. But if you don't want to wait for the state to enforce the law, you can take action, and get 3x damages plus attorney's fees.''

The company says it markets models. The pamphlet they provided me specifically says ''WSN is not an agency; it is a searchable database which markets aspiring models..'' They think that because they're not a talent agency they don't have to be licensed.

''If you're marketing me because you're going to do something for me -- that has to do with finding me work -- then you better be licensed,'' says Laurel Pollack of the San Francisco District Attorney's Office Consumer Fraud Division.

CA Labor Code 1701.16. A person who is injured by any violation of this chapter or by the breach of a contract..(post limit 1250 chars so cant write rest) I have tons of info about this company and the ways they've deceived me as well as hundreds of other people around the nation. I was swindled out of $995. I live in CA am I protected from their scam?
