Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
In May, I purchased a 2003 Audi from a dealer in TX, it was transported to CA, I signed documents. The car won't pass smog as it doesn't have a catalytic converter and intake/out take to exhaust system - Dealer was unaware. The engine dropped and now there is something loose in the engine. The dealer doesn't want to work with me. What will happen if the DMV papers (title, etc) are returned to dealer? Do I still have to make payments on a car with a dead engine that won't pass smog?

It depends on your agreement with the dealer, but there is always a risk that an out of state car won't pass smog in CA. If you have a loan, you need to continue making the payments or risk having the car repo'ed and damage to your credit. Contact a local automotive attorney for help. You have a bit of a messy situation that is not going to be easy to clean up.
