Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Recently I was arrested ourside my home. I was searched by officers. They took my cell phone. Three days later, after my rrelease, I went to the police station to get my personal belongingx. My cell phone was broken-in 7 pieces (it appeared it fell off a car and ran-over by another). The front desk officier told me to file a claim.

QUESTION? In my claim.what am I entitle to? Replacement cost? Time to read and understand new cell phone manual? Lost pictures and phone numberrs? Over-all inconvenienve that this caused in my life?

Thank-you

With respect to property damage claims, you are generally limited to the replacement cost of the item. That does not mean that you get the cost of a brand new phone. It means you get the fair market value of your phone. If you have a 2-year-old Motorola Razer that you can buy on eBay for $10, that's the value of your claim.

.I agree you are entitled only to the replacement value of your phone, nothing for your time to learn how to use it or any of the inconvenience it caused you.

Sorry about that but better luck this year.
