Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Refusal to refund a gift certificate
I presented a gift certificate issued by a gun shop for payment of a purchase there. The gun shop then refused to cash out the difference due me and gave me a credit memo that expires in 12 mo.. I told them there was nothing else I wanted to purchase. Are they acting within the law when the certificate was purchased with cash?

Re: Refusal to refund a gift certificate
If at the time of purchase, the shop made clear that the certificate was only for purchases at the shop, then it is legal.
