Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I was reviewing my phone bill today and found third party biller ESBI/Network Assurance has been billing me for efax services.

I never agree to any such thing - it is bogus.

The internet is full of stories about people who have had these charges on their phone bill from this company. All bogus charges.

I called them - they said they would cancel the service but not give me a credit for the charges. Verizon said they couldn't do anything about the charges.

I am shocked that Verizon knows that this is a scam but won't do anything.

I am out over $90.00

From one report, this company was shut down by the FCC for doing this in 2001; I guess it was too lucrative not to start up again.

Is there anything I can do to get my money back? How can these people be stopped? Can there be a class action suit?

If this is a fraudulent charge that you never authorized, your phone carrier should be able to remove it. Contact the California Public Utilities Commission and make a complaint (you may be able to do it online). They should be able to help you.
