ripped off?

I recently purchased a used car in the state of california. i drove the car 5 miles and the engine blew up. I want my money back. I called the guy and he said to bad. He didnt sign the bill of sale, and furthermore the car isnt registered in his name or the title in his name. What legal action can i take to get my money back?

If he didn't have the car smogged first, you could get the court to rescind the sale -- if you could prove the identity of the seller, which in your case would seem to be a huge hurdle to overcome.
