Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

robbery case

my carry-on bag was stolen at LAX airport with substancial jewelry and cash in it. My home insurance just apid a very small fraction of the loss. The loss amount is $250,000.00. Do I have any cause of action against the airport authority, Los Angeles Police Dept., and or any other agency for being negligent and not providing proper security to passengers. Also can you recommend what branch of law does this come under. I would like to know if you can recommend an attorney to represent me with this suit. Do I have any other state or fedreal agency to claim my loss from?

Pls. advise.

Thanks

Re: robbery case

One of the questions that they ask before you get on the plane is: "Has your bag been under your control at all times?"

It sounds more to me that you were the one who was negligent, not the airport.

Re: robbery case

Whether the airport has any liability will be a question of fact and will depend upon the circumstances under which it was stolen, i.e., where was the bag, how did you lose control of it, where were you when that occurred, where was security in relation to you when the theft took place.

I take it you are a diamond/jewel merchant. Were all of the gems yours or did you have other people's as well?

You should consult with an attorney regarding all of these issues.

I would be happy to speak with you about this matter.

Re: robbery case

Robbery is a criminal law term, and is only used if the government is suing the thief.

If you sue the airport, security, etc. it would be for "negligence".

If your bag was in the control of the airport when stolen, then you might have a good case. If so, you can contact me to discuss the case further.

Re: robbery case

you put $250,000 in a carry on bag, you are too dumb to keep an eye on it and you think it is someone else's fault? Good luck finding an attorney to take that turkey.
