Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Screwed by Jiffy Lube
Hello,
Here's my issue...I took my car to Jiffy Lube for a routine check, they didn't replace the hose from the radiator to the engine, which in turn blew up the engine. The car was considered totaled, would have cost more to fix than it was worth. They of course didn't want to talk to me and fix the problem, but luckily for me it was covered under insurance. But now I'm paying for a car, which wouldn't have to do had I not taken it to Jiffy Lube.
So my question(s) is, how can I get Jiffy Lube to take responsiblity? What steps do I need to take to go after Jiffy Lube?

From my own experience, I thought that the company only changes oil and oil filters. I know that, at the same time, it does routine inspections of other problems and notifies the owner of problems it finds -- to be repaired elsewhere.
If they agreed to fix the hose and did not do so, you might have a case for negligence. You could probably bring an action in small claims court for your damages. Also, your local shop might be a franchise so, if you bring a small claims action, make sure that you name the right entity.
