Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Showing DVD's
My question: If a restaurant owner purchases a DVD, say a rock & roll DVD; can he/she show it in their restaurant. They would not make any charge to customers to enter the restaurant and would be shown during lunch, for instance.
Thank you.

Not without paying.

Re: Showing DVD's
It would be considered public broadcast and the DVD's copyright owner could potentially sue you, but since you're not charging and it works out as good marketing for them you should be alright. . . at any rate if a problem arises they will usually send you a "cease and desist" letter first.
