Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
We signed up for this alarm service 3 year contract for with a company Montronics. It hasn't worked from day one, and we try and cancel but they say its a 3 year contract. They don't have a location here and they fight like hell with you over the phone. It's now been almost 3 years and $2200 later with still no working alarm system. They say I can't cancel and they wouldn't make it work unless we paid extra money, is there anything we can do? Can I just contact my bank and have them reverse the charges. They claim you also can't cancel without a written letter?

I don't get it. Why didn't you send them a letter? What does it say in the contract about how you cancel? Why didn't you send them a letter 3 years ago? Don't Do Stuff Verbally.
