Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
I know that when you have a store credit or gift card, the store cannot "expire" your cash. Are airlines exempt from this rule? My parents had a $700 cash credit. My dad died and my mom forgot about the credit. She's flown at least half a dozen times on this airline since but they never reminded her about the credit. We found the credit and now they say "it's expired". They haven't turned the money over to the state, so basically they're keeping it as income even though they "refunded" the tickets and no service was ever performed. Do we have recourse?

Your Mom should take the airline to small claims court for the money, and any frequent flier miles Dad had. If she was ever appointed administrator or executor of his estate, that would be best, but you might win in small claims court anyway.
