Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Totally Taken by Scam
I signed up with a career counseling company after being laid off from a 20 year printing career. Specifically to be directed toward a new career. The company charged $3060.00 for a years worth of help and follow up. An 80%-10%-10% program. After 11 visits aboout 6 weeks worth once a week they they have not lived up to the brochure or any of the promises. I waited over 3 weeks after the (specified time) in the program for a new and revised resume that would market me in a new direction. I was given a resume that was the original one I was using before this company just rearranged. They said that we had met 90% of our time and would only give us 10% refund. After showing them how they did not and would not meet their obligations we said we would accept half back if they would let us out now. They agreed. We sent a confirmation letter to that effect. They have yet to respond. Can we now ask for the full amount. They are a major scam. They take the over$3000.00 up front and basically give you an unnecessary amount of paper. Nothing that is on the advertisement. We basically were had at a very vunerable time. They get your email address off of job websites and contact you with promises of helping you redirect yoour career. Help

Given the amount of money invovled, this really belongs in small claims court. Visting my website for more information: http://www.chs-law.com/2005/02/using-small-claims-court-part-i.html
Re: Totally Taken by Scam
What motivated you to pay $3000 up front to have your resume rewritten? Did you sign a contract? What, if any, promises were made in the written contract?
