Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Unlicensed contractor

I'm working with a contractor who has charged me $900.00 for equipment rental. I have a receipt from her that she generated from her printer and I went to the rental company and obtained copies of the origin receipt, the true cost was $201. What she did with the other $699, I have no clue.

If I contact the district attorney, could this be considered ''fraud'' & ''grand theft?

Re: Unlicensed contractor

If she is unlicensed and performing work for which a contractor's license is required, you can go to small claims court and get your money back, even if she did $699 worth of work.

Re: Unlicensed contractor

If she is licensed, you are going to be governed by the terms in the contract, and general contract law, which may or may amount to be fraud.
