Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
viewing of surveillance tapes
I was wondering what the California law is in regards to the public asking a retail store to view their surveillance tapes. I have a friend who had her bag stolen with all her personal belongings and believes it is on tape. Do we have a right to view the surveillance tapes?

Re: viewing of surveillance tapes
I'm not sure about that, but your friend should contact the store in writing to ask them to preserve the tape. Your friend also should tell the police about the tape immediately, so it can be included in their investigation.
