Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Wage garnishment
I am involved in a dispute with a car rental company. I turned in a vehicle upon which minor damage was found. The damage did not occur while the vehicle was in my possession but I did enter into a contract with them and did not purchase additional insurance. The car rental company now claims I owe $253.00. Do they have a means to force me to pay? Can they garnish my wages if they take me to court?

Re: Wage garnishment
They can file a lawsuit against you alleging the damage occurred while you were in possession of the vehicle. They will have to prove this. More likely, they will refer it to a collection agency who will harass you and ding your credit. You have to decide if it is worth paying $253 to avoid having to deal with this in the future.
