Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Wedding contract

My fiance and I signed a contract for catering/reception location. We placed a $3000.00 deposit with them for the site and catering. They notified us that they closed down the reception site and are now offering to cater our event at a barn located on another premises. My question is, is the company who made the contract with legally able to change the location without our consent and not refund our deposit? Does changing anything in the contract without our concent make it void?

Re: Wedding contract

You should be able to get out of the contract due to them changing the location. You paid them for a specific location. If the location is not around anymore, the contract is void for impossibility. In other words, it is impossible for you to have the reception there.

You should send them a letter, certified mail, return receipt, demanding a refund. You may have to take them to small claims court.
