Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Wrongly arrested for shoplifting

I was recently in a major department store shopping for a new pair of pants. The ones I was wearing the bottoms are very worn and my wife sews on another cuff so there not too short and look all torn up usually about 2'' to the bottom. Well I suppose this could look like another pair of pants being worn under the ones I'm wearing but not really, you would have to really use some imagination to see that. Well after trying on several pairs of pants I never bought any and as I was leaving the store I was confronted by security who had to forcibly restrain me even though I never resisted, handcuffed me arrested me and took me back into the store and into there holding room where they then realized they had made a mistake after they made me strip down to my shorts, apologized, and sent me on my way. Meanwhile the town I live in is a small town and several people whom know me professionally and socially seen this and now I am looked at by allot of people as a thief, and have lost 1 major contract and 3 others have limited my work load, as I am a general contractor and do work for some real estate companies and homeowners as well. Do I have any recourse and is there any way to make them publicly acknowledge their mistake. Thank you
