Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I was 16 when i became pregnant and was suppose to be under my father's insurance when i gave birth. Apparently my father's insurance lapsed for a short time and he had a $2,200 bill to pay. About 4 years later i was contacted by a debt collector that i had a $2,200 dollar bill to pay and if i did not pay it i could possibly be taken to court. Is it legal for them to charge me with that even though i was only 16 when i had my son?

You are still obligated to pay for the "necessities of life", when you are a minor, and that would probably include the costs of giving birth.
