Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Addicted to Gambling

Dear Sirs,

My question has to do with an obligation to pay a credit card debt when most of the amount owed was used in gaming casinos in Nevada. I was unemployed and I stupidly used my card(s) on lost causes. Because gambling is a recognized illness, Am I obligated to pay these cards? (I have not gambled since!) At the time of card use, these co's kept sending me checks to use any way I wanted, suckering me in deeper and deeper! I feel like I was taken advantage because they knew I wasn't working! Dealing with these co's is impossible, they sugested that a credit service, ect.,but, why won't they deal with me the same way they deal with these so called services? After all, it's MY account! so I gave up, sent a few letters telling them not to bother or it's harrassment, ect. Thank you for your time.--name removed--

P.S. Is there any truth to these co's that claim that I don't have to pay at all, just sign up, and for a fee, we'll walk you through the steps and supply all letters andlegal help?
