Another Alarm Company Claim
Ok, I had an alarm system installed. I got them to change the term to 2 years and did automatic payments from my credit card. The card expired and payments stopped. I didnt realize this and now I am in collections.
The contract was signed 3/27/05. I called the monitoring company and they said they terminated my account in 8/05 and last tried to contact me by phone in April of 2006 ( a year ago). The collection company says they tried to contact me by certified mail but have no signature that I received the letter or notification. The lady said she tried to contact me by phone and left messages but I dont remember getting any. Also she has such a thick accent that i could barely understand her - so if she called I might have thought it was wrong number.
So here is my situation. The company wants to charge me for the 75% of the year and a half that i havent paid after service was terminated. a $375 collection fee, $200 installation fee (thought I have a receipt that I pad $305 for installation) they say it was a discounted rate that they paid and want reimbursement for and $350 for the sales rep.
Now, if I were to pay 100% of the service shouldnt I be forgiven the $200 and $350 fees as I honored the term of the agreement?

If you can pay 100% of the service you will be better off since it will show up on your credit report as paid in full. Tell them you will pay them the rest of the contract price and then send them a check marked "PAID IN FULL ACCT: " and send a cover letter.
