Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

ambulance charge

my son was a victim of a ramdom assult on a city street. an ambulance was called by someone other than him, maybe the police. the attackers were arrested. the ambulance spoke with my son, and then had him sign a medical release before leaving him at the scene. now he has received a bill for $215. is he really liable to pay this bill even though he was not the one to call the ambulance, he was a victim of the crime, and he basically got no medical attention? they did loan him a towel to wipe away some blood, but that was the extent.

Re: ambulance charge

Your son is probably responsible for paying this bill. Imagine if they didn't come and he was injured. Then you would be upset that they didn't come.

$215 is a cheap bill. If he cannot afford to pay it, you can ask the DA to ask for restitution in that amount at the attacker's sentencing. He can also file a claim with the Victims of Violent Crime fund. You can find that here: http://www.vcgcb.ca.gov/Victims.htm
