Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

i was given an amount of money, now that corporation want's it back!

While on military leave of absence from a large telecommunications company I was kept on the payrole and weekly checks were being deposited into my account. Now, after a year of not even working for that company I recieved noticed stating that I am obligated to return the amount of money paid to me while on military duty. My question is basically, Do I have to repay the amount paid to me? I was first notified about the atempt to collect about 7 months after the last check was deposited into my account. Please give me some info on what recourse if any I have.

Well I don't see that you have to pay the money back. If they intentionally kept you on payroll during your military leave, then they cannot come back later and ask for the money back. However, if you are not to be kept on payroll during your military leave and the money was deposited into your account by mistake, then you would probably be required to return it.
