Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Appealing a court fine

I forgot to pay a $57.00 medical bill two andc a half years ago. For the last two years I have been in Israel. When I returned, I got a bill in my back mail that said that the San Diego Superior Court had fined me $420 while I was gone. Is there any way I can appeal this fine and possibly get rid of it?

You cannot be fined by a court which is criminal in nature for a civil dispute or a judgment of $57.00. Is there a judgment against you for more than that? If you fax me a copy of the judgment and a copy of the court ruling, I will provide you with free consultation.

Thanks for your posting. As Mr. Rothman indicated, something doesn't make sense here. Are you sure this $420 fine is for the unpaid medical bill?

At any rate, you may be able to reopen the case upon permission of the court and fight it, depending on the details. If you would like to provide me with more details, feel free to email, call my office toll free at 1-877-568-2977, or fax the documents for review at 714-568-1563. Thanks, and best of luck.
