AT&T Collections Attny Suing me over disputed billing
Hi. I was just served by a collections attny over a 5 year-old AT&T Wireless bill I disputed shortly before ending my association as their customer. I signed a contract with Cingular before the two merged, and never had an issue bumping up my rate plan if I knew I would exceed my minutes that month, then returning to the original rate plan the following month.
Once AT&T took over, the trouble began. I asked to bump up to the next increment at $65 for the month, and specified that I would be returning to my regular plan of $40 at the end of the billing cycle. I was assured it was business as usual. However, the next month when I called to return to the original plan in my contract, the rep told me they couldn't restore my original plan because they no longer offered that promotion. I insisted that I wouldn't pay more that the original $40 we agreed on, and the next month my bill arrived with $1300 in charges. I called the company to negotiate, and informed them that I'd be paying the regular $40, no more. Shortly after, they turned my service off adding term. fees. Again, I called and said there was no inherent value in $1500 for one month of local cell service, and refused to be extorted.5 years later, they're suing for $1700

5 years is too late! Make sure you do not possibly reset the legal time limit by making a payment or a promise to pay. I would love to hear from you directly as I routinely and successfully defend these types of cases for very reasonable fees. Do not speak to them! Consult an attorney and do not file a response to the lawsuit yourself! You must file the right kind of response within 30 days.
