can a leasing company attach my social security benefits for an alleged $3000 that I owe them

No. However when you get notice of the execution of the writ of attachment you should file a notice of exemption. There is a form which you can download from the internet on any site which has Cal. JC (Judicial Council) forms. You may need to look at the sections in the Cal Civil Procedure Code to fill in the form. However, generally social security benefits are exempt, there are several other exemptions as well which can be used to protect income and assets. DON'T ignore any legal papers served on you. Get advice or be certain you know what it going on.
