Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Auto Lease

I am writing for a friends Grandmother. Her husband leased a Ford F150 Pickup truck. It is a 4yr lease at $510.00/mo. Truck is in both names. Husband has since become gravely ill with little chance of recovery. Unable to afford the lease payment on her own. causing a financial hardhip.

Q: Can she legally, without harm to her home and credit rating, break the lease? She is afraid if it gets to the point where she cannot pay the lease payment, they will reposses the truck and damage her credit rating. What can she do?
