Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Auto Repossession/Contents of vehicle
My friends car was repossessed while I was visiting. I had personal item's in the vehicle that were not his (my baby stroller, & booster seat as well as my boombox w/CD's) was in
the car upon repossession.
The company that has the vehicle states, no matter if the contents were not of the ''owners'', the owner would need to
pay a fee to get the contents out of the car.
Owner is not paying, and I am not going to pay to retrieve my
personal item's, but I need to get them out...how can I do this? Does the repo company have the right to hold ''MY'' item's hostage?
Please advise.

Re: Auto Repossession/Contents of vehicle
Likely as not anything of value has been stolen by the repo people. The former owner owes you for any losses (he is at fault for not making the payments). Take it to small claims court if you have to.
