Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

How to avoid getting sued from running somebody's credit report

Hi. I would like to be able to run people's credit report on the internet. I have seen some websites collect the social security number and a credit card number requiring users to enter a free trial membership. But I am looking for a way to avoid the membership and just give them a free credit report with no hassle/obligations. Do I just need a social security number for this? How can i ensure that somebody cannot press charges against me for running their credit report? Is an email from them saying that they authorize me to do so enough? Thanks in advance.

Re: How to avoid getting sued from running somebody's credit report

First of all, you ned to abide by the rules of the credit reporting agencies. You need to sign up with them to have access to the credit report. All of the places on the internet have that membership, and give the free information on one of the three major agencies, but sell the other two.

Next, how will you know, just by receiving an email, that it actually is the information came from the person who's information it is. Without some kind of confirmation, you will never know who's asking for the information.

If you provide information to someone other than the person the information is about, without their written outhorization, you can be sued for invasion of privacy.

You need to re-think your business plan.
