Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Bank Levy after 9 years?

I leased a vehicle for 6 months before losing my job. I tried to settle with the finance company, but they wouldn't work with me on settling the difference between the remaining balance ($6500) and what I could pay. I was told by finance company that it will be charged off and that my credit would be affected for 10 years (which it was). That was January 1997.

Yesterday, I found that a Sheriff Levy cleared out my savings and checking accounts to the tune of $2600. After a day of phone calls, I track down a law firm in San Diego that claimed they've had my account since May of 1998. I have never heard of them. To my knowledge, I have not gotten any correspondence from them.

Apparently, they claim to have ''sub-served'' me and got a judgment by default sometime in 2000. In October 2006, they submitted the levy and it came out last night.

The address they had for me was outdated by 9 years. I have had no phone calls, no communication, no warning.

Yet they found my account (which I've had for 20 years). And when talking to the law firm, they pulled up my current address while talking.

Please help. I'm willing to work it out if possible, but how?

I moved to Texas 18 months ago. The levy expires on 11/16/06. Thanks.
