Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Billing after 4 1/2 years

Last month I received a bill from a book club that I had canceled years ago. The amount was very small but I didn't leave owing them money. Now, 4 1/2 years later they want me to pay them $3.65, and now a late charge

of $3.00 more, because I wrote and told them I didn't feel I owed this bill. Does this mean I have to prove I paid for a book I can't even find in my books?

How can they wait this long to close out their books?

Is there a statue of limitations on something like this?

Thank you so much
