Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Broken oral contract, monetary responsibility

Hello...Me and the person I had been seeing recently separated after a 6 month relationship. The only problem is that most of the expenses of the relationship (ie. gas, food, etc.) were put on my credit card. This person at first told me (and this was witnesses by several people) that they would pay half of said expenses...but now my phonecalls go unreturned and it is obvious that no payment is intended. My question: is this person legally responsible to pay half of the bill...and if so, what time restraints exist to take legal action? Thank you so much...this is a great service, keep up the good work!
