Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
California: After my divorce, I had a bill dispute with my lawyer. He took me to court and won a judgement against me for $28,000. I cannot afford to pay the full amount. I have asked for a payment plan or a settlement of the judgement for a smaller amount approx $10,000-14,000 and cannot get a workable response. I own a home but have no other available money, am fully commissioned and am not making much money. What are my options. They have not placed a lien on my house yet. I can only afford payments of about $200 per month.
Thank You

You don't have any option or right to force a reduced payment or monthly payments on a judgment. You fought and lost, meaning you lost your option to settle as well. Your only way to reduce or eliminate this debt is bankruptcy if you qualify.
