CanThey Garnish Our wages?

My grandparents bought a mobile home a couple years back and then my grandpa got really sick he start having seizers and has very high blood preasure. they could no longer afford there payments on there home, because he couldn't work anymore.. they had contacted there bank several times to let them know and to ask what they could do.They where very nasty to them.and never gave them an answer. well they moved, but still made payments for a couple months. well now the bank sold the home but they are saying they still owe $6,387.00. can they garnish there ssi payments or retirement payments. oh and they are they are 64yrs. old. thank you
